What Is Abuse?
Abuse is when someone hurts you, makes you feel frightened, controls you or treats you in a way that is wrong. Abuse is never your fault and everyone has the right to feel safe.
Abuse can include:
- Emotional abuse
- Physical abuse
- Sexual abuse
- Neglect
- Bullying or online abuse
- Controlling or unhealthy relationships
- Being pressured into illegal or unsafe activities
What Happens If I Tell Someone?
It can feel difficult to speak up, especially if the person you're worried about is someone you know or care about. However, trusted adults such as teachers, doctors, social workers and police officers are there to help keep you safe.
If you tell someone about a concern, they will listen, take you seriously and explain what happens next. They may need to share information with other professionals so they can make sure you are safe, but they will always act in your best interests.
