Year 9 Explore the World of Work

On Friday 30th March 126 Year 9 pupils participated in a Work Shadowing Project designed to help them understand more about the work place and view at first hand the daily working lives of their parents/guardians in a variety of jobs and careers.  Pupils visited a wide range of businesses in the area including:  Leigh Paints, Carrs Pasties Ltd, Total Fitness and AMG Computer Services.

On the same day an Industrial Awareness Day was held in school.  The day was designed to allow pupils to participate in a number of hands on practical activities relating to different career areas.  Representatives from 16 different occupational areas including child care, photography, motor vehicle maintenance, catering and public services attended the day and provided pupils with practical activities as well as allowing them the opportunity to ask about career pathways and what working in their occupational area involves.

A further 30 pupils attended a two day business and enterprise course at the Bolton Wanderers Enterprise Academy.  The course allowed the pupils to develop their employability skills as well as providing an insight into how a real life business is run.  All pupils attending the course had a great time and successfully attained the OCR Business and Enterprise Award as you can see on the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust website.

We would like to extend our thanks to all the businesses and FE colleges, participating in the project, for providing our pupils with such an excellent day.
