BBC News comes to Harper Green

This week, four Year 9 pupils have been busy working to produce a news item as part of “BBC School Report”. Bethany and Melissa became news reporters for a day, with Katie and Nicola taking on behind the scenes roles as camera operators and editors.
These pupils have spent the last few weeks practising their interviewing techniques and how to piece together a news report. Then, they spent a day working on one news story for a 3:20pm deadline- just like real broadcast journalists do.
The pupils were incredibly professional and worked fantastically well together as a team. As well as improving their communication, analytical and evaluative skills, they gained a unique insight into the world of the professional journalist and got the chance to spend a day doing something completely different.
Their final report was excellent- especially considering they had never done this kind of report before and had much more limited access to technological equipment than professional journalists do.
A big well done to Bethany, Melissa, Katie and Nicola.
